Notice to Electric Customers

The Public Service Commission (PSC) issued an order approving Florida Public Utilities Company’s Mid-Course Correction on July 20, 2022.

Effective with the first billing cycle for August 2022, there will be an increase to the Electric Fuel rates. This change is based on the increased cost of FPU’s wholesale electricity purchased for its customers. The attached chart illustrates the changes in the fuel factors for each of the customer classes.

Midcourse Fuel – PPA Factors

Due to the significant increase in the cost of wholesale electricity over the past year, its subsidiary Florida Public Utilities Company’s (FPU) electric division, filed a petition with the Florida Public Service Commission on June 14 for a fuel cost adjustment that would result in an increase to customer bills.

FPU purchases electricity from third party generators. The cost of the fuel used to produce power has dramatically increased since early 2021. FPU’s fuel cost adjustment filing will enable the Company to recover the increased cost of the wholesale electricity purchased for its customers. The Company has filed for an adjustment in its rates to recover the higher electricity costs.

FPU’s purchased electricity costs are passed through to customers with no markup or profit.

Following the adjustment, a typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh would see an increase of $14.89 in their monthly statement. Commercial and industrial customers would see increases ranging from 11% to 13%.

As always, FPU is committed to serving affordable energy to its customers and will continue to closely monitor significant fluctuations in the cost of fuel for electric generation. Please see below for FPU payment options and energy assistance program information:
