April 24, 2012–Florida Public Utilities hosted a celebration honoring the first natural gas customer installation in Nassau County. The Residence Inn Amelia Island, the first account activation, was also the venue for the victorious party. The beautiful suite hotel was the ideal site for the “by invitation only” event that allowed FPU to host City and County dignitaries. The well-attended event boasted of many community leaders and officials who expressed their support of Florida Public Utilities as it fulfills its commitment to bring a natural gas distribution system to Nassau County.
Kevin Webber, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Florida Public Utilities welcomed the guests and spoke of the benefits of natural gas and the impact it will have on Nassau County, strengthening its business environment by creating employment opportunities and economic development. Nassau County will not only enable its present businesses to operate more productively, it ensures its position as a premier destination for new commerce who seeks to conduct their trade with clean and reliable energy.
Others who publicly addressed the group were Janet Adkins, State Representative, Aaron Bean, candidate for State Senate District 5, Arleen Filkoff, Fernandina Beach Mayor and Danny Leeper, County Commissioner District 1. A relaxed session of drinks and snacks followed, thoughtfully catered by the hotel.
FPU was visibly touched by the encouragement and kind words spoken about the organization. It was evident how supportive the community is of the partnership between the public and the utility and fosters the collaboration. FPU has served this territory, with pride, for nearly eight decades. We continue to be moved by the fact that a utility could be the subject of such an amazing event.
