August 29, 2012–Florida Public Utilities is pleased to announce it
has entered into a franchise agreement with the City of Okeechobee. The City Council granted
the Company a non-exclusive franchise to provide gas distribution services within the City of
Okeechobee at their council meeting on August 21st. The thirty-year Agreement will bring
natural gas service to the City and provide residential and commercial users with a clean,
efficient and economical energy source.
The introduction of natural gas to Okeechobee is an important step for the City. Consumers
today recognize the variety of energy services available and want to enjoy the efficiencies and
economic advantages of natural gas, a clean and green energy alternative. Economic
development agencies welcome natural gas as it enhances their community’s position as a
premium destination for new commerce who seeks to conduct their trade with domestic and
reliable energy. Florida Public Utilities Company will commence service to commercial
customers and will branch off into residential areas, as infrastructure permits.
