Fernandina Beach, FL (September 13, 2018) – As Hurricane Florence approaches,
FPU’s linemen and crew leaders from the Northwest and Northeast Florida division are poised to respond to anticipated restoration efforts as coordinated through the efforts of the Mutual Assistance Committee of the Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE).
“We take very seriously our responsibility to restore power after a storm in the communities we serve. We are also committed to assisting other electric utilities when storms disrupt service in their service areas. FPU has proactively sent several electric crews and equipment to North Carolina. These crews will be prepared to begin restoring power as soon as Florence moves past.”
North Carolina Governor Cooper declares a state of emergency as the National Weather Service expects the hurricane to make landfall in North Carolina Friday. Repair crews and community members alike should expect “widespread damage” from Florence, which is forecasted to be a large and extremely dangerous storm system.
“We thank and respect our team of linemen for bravely stepping up to the plate,” said Buddy Shelley, Director of Electric Operations. “We hope our friends and business associates on the East Coast stay safe as the storm approaches. It is FPU’s privilege to support our neighbors.”
