July 23, 2013—After an unpopular ten-year hiatus, FPU’s co-sponsorship helped bring July 4th fireworks back to Okeechobee County. Hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police, the celebration took place at the Okee-Tantie Park on State Road 78.
As the keynote presenting sponsor, FPU contributed to the theme of ‘Safety’ by promoting the statewide ‘811: Call Before You Dig’ program, which reminds home and business owners to call 811 to have their utility lines marked prior to doing any kind of excavation or digging.
In addition to a fireworks display, the event also featured a public safety educational expo, family oriented games and activities, a kids’ “fun zone” (sponsored by Dairy Queen), and more. While the event was free to attend, community members were invited to contribute through a GoFundMe.com donation page set up in April.
